Thank you healthy fats
I love to switch things up by replacing my breakfast or lunch with a delicious power smoothie. But we can very quickly have too much of a good thing. Unfortunately, most smoothies are loaded with fruits and sugars.
If you blend most fruit, the natural sugars are released from within the cell walls and become “free sugars”. Free sugars include any added sugars, so these are the kind we should be cutting down on because they cause such a spike in our insulin. To reduce this it’s essential, and very tasty, to add those body-loving fats into your smoothie which keep you satisfied for much longer too.
Avocados have a very mild flavor. Depending on the other ingredients you add to your smoothie, the avocado does not have much taste on its own. But is adds all the delicious creaminess you want your smoothie to have.
The spirulina is totally optional. I like to add it to my smoothies because it’s high in many nutrients, a powerful antioxidant and it gives your smoothie a beautiful delicious looking color.
Eating my smoothie out of a bowl with a variety of toppings feels like a real treat to me. I topped mine with pumpkin, sunflower seeds, and some grated coconut.
Get your spoons ready and dig in!
about 6 cm of cucumber
some mint leaves
half a green apple
a teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon spirulina (optional)
a few icecubes (optional)
In your blender: add cucumber, mint, apple, honey, avocado, spirulina and start blending (if the ingredients get stuck add some water)
Add some ice if you like for a thicker smoothie and blend until smooth.
Finish with your favourite toppings
